60’s inspired retro dual aspect coffee table with suspended laptop storage shelf. Hand made from solid walnut using traditional techniques along with modern hand tools. Featuring tapered turned legs with rounded ends, playful oval top with tapered under edge.
The brief was to design a dual aspect coffee table with storage for the clients laptop. The height was raised from a standard coffee table to be best suited ergonomically for the use of a laptop from an existing low recliner chair. Lending design inspiration from the client’s love of 60’s furniture we came up with the idea of what could be a 60’s suspended magazine rack and bringing it through the generations for the use of a laptop storage shelf.
Main design features include wood turned tapered legs with rounded ends, splayed and secretly joined to the frame, suspended floating laptop shelf from playful oval top with tapered under edge. Solid walnut was chosen as the timber of construction, being the most fantastic timber to sit and enjoy a coffee over, with its magnificent variation in grain colour and tone, ranging from purple to yellow. Made completely by hand using traditional techniques along with modern hand tools. I believe a more honest design can be created with passion and skill.
